The avant-prog, surreal storytelling project, Cantor Dust began around the turn of the century as pianist Mark Klassen began the task of writing and self-recording songs in Winnipeg  After much exploration, he embarked on the dream-like journey of creating albums spanning from primarily instrumental orchestrations to concept albums outlining tales of otherworldly natures.

Several full-length, independently released, concept albums include: The Contaminated Man, Belladonna, The Three-Penised Man, and Blind Date. They weave fantastic tales of alien abduction, genital mutation, poison, and medicine. As the years progressed, Cantor Dust’s large and epic musical arrangements began to embrace a far more comical and light-hearted component; their heavy, brooding and psychedelic musical elements contrasted by often ridiculous lyrics.

2011 found Cantor Dust united with a four-piece consisting of percussion, cello, trumpet, and female/guest vocals, for the performance of Safaris I’ve Been On; a compendium of adventures through time and space, delivering the listener throughout magical landscapes of two-stepping mountains, interdimensional seas, gelatinous quays; filled with all sorts of creatures of whimsy and wonder. Safaris I’ve Been On served indeed as a story-telling children’s album for the imaginative adult audience.

Subsequent years have found Cantor Dust working diligently on a new album entitled I Can’t Find My Cape, a pop-rock infused album of eternal dynamics, bewilderment, and fear. Piano and synth-based compositions driven by elegant drums and arpeggiated guitars, symphonic orchestration, and towering vocals to deliver a powerful message of the world’s epic heroes’ inabilities to bring us safely from the apocalypse.
